SIGNS OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS
Transmission problems are not always obvious. When there's a problem with your vehicle, many times you don't know exactly what's wrong. All you know is that it's just not right and needs to be fixed. At Tisdell Transmission, we understand how difficult this can be. That’s why we’ve assembled a list of common signs of transmission problems.
If you notice any of the following issues with your vehicle, it’s time to take it in to the shop:
- The smell of burning transmission fluid is a telltale sign that your transmission is overheating. Don’t worry if you don’t know exactly what transmission fluid smells like: any burning smell in your vehicle is a sign that something has gone wrong.
- Keeping your vehicle in the correct gear is one of the most important jobs of your transmission system (whether it’s a manual or an automatic). If the gears are slipping or the vehicle refuses to go into gear, something is wrong.
- Do you notice a bright red, clear, and sweet-smelling liquid on your driveway, under where your vehicle was? It might not be from the kids’ slushies or sno-cones: it could be leaking transmission fluid.
- Another telltale sign is an unusual feeling when the vehicle shifts into gear. For automatic vehicles, you’ll probably feel the vehicle “shimmy” into gear, or you might notice a sudden and jarring gear shift. With manual vehicles, drivers often report hearing a grinding sound when shifting gears.
- You don’t even get a break when your vehicle is in neutral: you hear strange noises even when the transmission theoretically isn’t engaged.
